Forex backtesting on real market history
Backtesting means taking a set of trading rules and checking how they would have done on past prices. TradeFlux does it the hands-on way: you replay the chart from a past date, make each decision as the candles appear, and the results are worked out from the trades you actually took.
A simple backtesting routine
- Write your rules down. Save a strategy with your entry, exit and risk rules, so every trade can be held up against it.
- Replay a period. Choose a market and a start date and press play. You cannot see the candles that come next, so each call is made the way it would be live. See free bar replay for how it works.
- Trade it. Place buy and sell orders with a stop loss and a take profit using demo money. Mark up the chart with drawing tools and indicators as you would on a live chart.
- Tag and review. Tag each trade to its strategy and add a note on what went right or wrong. The journal fills itself in from your trades.
- Read the results. Win rate, profit, best and worst trades, split by market, day and strategy so you can see which ideas hold up and which habits cost you. Paid plans add all-time analytics and breakdowns by setup, session and news.
What you can test with
- Forex, gold and other metals, indices and commodities, with crypto and synthetic indices on paid plans.
- History going back to 2003, with the depth of replay set by your plan (see the pricing page).
- Every preset timeframe, plus custom timeframes on paid plans.
- A news calendar that plays back at the exact time events happened, so you can test news trading too.
- Trade Team rooms to run the same replay with other traders and compare your calls.
What to keep in mind
This is manual, discretionary backtesting: you make the decisions. It is not a tool for running a coded trading robot across years of data in one pass. Demo trades do not include the slippage, delays and emotions of real money, and past results never guarantee future ones. Use it to find out whether your approach is worth pursuing, and keep risk small when you move to a live account.
